Both Bands Fantastic
Ellie's diverse voice holds up amazingly when she wants to sing like a diva with vibrato and long held pitches. They sounded so great; I wish more folks heard them. I wish they could've gone on a bit later to catch more of the QOTSA crowd numbers. Wolf Alice, Chelsea Wolfe, Daughter, and Eisley - I have a dream of a cool tour package. Who headlines would be up to them. This band is such a great addition to the modern music pool. Wolf Alice opened the show with skill and finesse. QOTSA are so polished at this point that to say they are great is a redundancy. Bass and drums were perfectly on point, and it was cool to hear the bass enough to witness how complex his parts are. Josh Homme's banter was fun and witty, despite protestations of drunkenness. They had a great setlist, with one strong song after another building the fun and excitement. Also, some spacey jams seguing into other tunes were fun and surprising at moments. Troy's slide work on the lap steel was amazing. The LED light show was stunning; there were moments when the reds and blues were so intense and saturated that it affected my brain, enjoyably! Sometimes the flopping light sticks the band messed with were fun, but added a bit of silliness that didn't always match the cool vibe of the music. Only criticisms; I felt Josh Homme's guitar was too quiet, and (I can't believe I'm saying this as a former bass player), the bass was too loud, obscuring the other instruments. But these are small things, I loved the show overall.
